The Process of Child Modeling
The world of child modeling starts with research, you must find the right agency for you and your child keep in mind that agencies are usually looking for a different types of kids, not jus the “beautiful” ones but the photogenic ones of all ethnicities, shapes and sizes. You can usually find modeling agencies catering to children in your local phone books, read the ads carefully and make sure that you as a parent feel the particular agency would be a fitting start for your child.
Child Modeling: Putting A Portfolio Together
You should put together a portfolio as well but you do not need to spend money on a professional photographer, agencies just want a nicely focused picture that showcases how photogenic your child really is. So choose focused, quality snapshots of your child and keep it simple. There is no need for outrageous poses; make up or anything else is over-selling your child.
The child modeling world has a lot of competition, so be prepared. If you feel cannot handle it modeling, is not the right career for you or your child.
If you are accepted you should then make sure that your child is ready to go on go-sees and further audition to book modeling jobs. This means before you even begin this process you must think long and hard and make sure that your child has the right personality to be a child model. Are they shy? Are they prone to acting out? Are the disciplined enough to perform the tasks asked of them? These are all things you should take into consideration. Modeling can be a grueling job for adults let alone children. So make sure your child is ready for the responsibilities that come along with the job.
If you however feel as though your child has the right personality to be a model, then make sure they arrive at each go-see on time, looking there best and behaving their best but again do not over do it. Don’t try to over glamorize them it may come off as being incredibly tacky. Keep it simple but elegant as the saying goes.
So if you feel your child has real potential in the world of child modeling and you feel that they are disciplined enough to handle it, have the right personality and the right look, then contact a local agency and the rest is entirely up to you. Make sure you find a proper booking agent as well when the time comes and above all make sure that you and your child are ready to deal with the possibility of rejection. Do not take it personal as a parent and make sure that you explain to your child that they were not rejected because they weren’t good enough but rather they just were not what the modeling company was looking for at the time. You should also always be realistic, child modeling will not bring in instant big bucks it’s just not feasible.
Most importantly don’t forget you are a parent first.
